Home Renovation

SPRING ST
refinished woodwork and home updates breath new life into this classic Santa cruz mountain home
The Vision
When the homeowners approached Shaw Built, they were drawn to the warm, organic feel of their home’s original wood interior—but decades of wear had dulled the vibrancy of the space. Their goal was simple yet ambitious: restore the home’s soul by breathing new life into the entryway and adjoining rooms without replacing the original materials.
Our Work
We focused on meticulous surface restoration throughout the home where redwood and cedar wall paneling had aged unevenly. Our team carefully cleaned, sanded, and reconditioned the existing wood surfaces to enhance their natural grain and deepen their tones—preserving the original character while bringing a renewed richness to the space.
A standout moment in the project was the restoration of a one-of-a-kind sculptural shelving wall. Serving as both a room divider and architectural statement, the floor-to-ceiling shelving unit features a rhythmic, faceted pattern carved into each vertical column. Years of sun exposure and wear had dulled the finish and obscured the craftsmanship. Our refinishing process revived the tone, detail, and dimensionality of this handcrafted piece, transforming it into a focal point that celebrates mid-century design at its finest.
The Result
What was once a faded interior now glows with renewed warmth. The entryway has become a statement space—welcoming, timeless, and true to the home’s architectural heritage. Every wall panel, every grain line, and every corner tells a story—not of renovation, but of thoughtful restoration.
